Governor Riley Declares Bo Bice Day in Alabama

Governor Encourages Alabamians to Support and Vote for Bo

MONTGOMERY - Governor Bob Riley today proclaimed Tuesday, May 24 as Bo Bice Day in the state of Alabama in honor of the American Idol finalist. Governor Riley is encouraging all Alabamians to support and vote for Bo Bice as he competes to be the next American Idol.

"Bo has showcased his exceptional talent and represented the state of Alabama well on national television. Our state is truly blessed with many talented people and I am proud that Bo has made it to the finals," Governor Riley said. "I encourage all Alabamians to show their support and watch Bo perform Tuesday night and call in and vote for Bo after his performance."

Bice, who was born in Huntsville and now resides in Helena, will perform on American Idol on Tuesday, May 24. After his performance, viewers will be able to call in and cast their vote.

Bice is the second Alabamian to make it to the final round of American Idol. In 2003, Birmingham native Ruben Studdard won the second season of American Idol and at the time, Governor Riley proclaimed a day in his honor as well.

The text of the proclamation is below.

PROCLAMATION

By the Governor of Alabama

WHEREAS, Bo Bice was born in Huntsville, Alabama and attended Calhoun Community College and the University of North Alabama in Florence; and

WHEREAS, out of over 100,000 people who auditioned, he was chosen to be a contestant on the fourth season of the popular Fox Network television show, American Idol ; and

WHEREAS, Bo Bice began singing as soon as he could talk and has been performing since he was nine years of age; and

WHEREAS, his voice has earned him a top spot on American Idol, but his other musical talents include, playing the piano, guitar, bass, sax, harmonica and writing songs; and

WHEREAS, his excellent performances on American Idol have won the hearts of millions of viewers across the nation and earned him a spot as one of the final two contending for a recording contract; and

WHEREAS, Bo Bice has expressed his love for the great state of Alabama and Helena, Alabama, where he now lives and has become known for his Southern Rock style; and

WHEREAS, on numerous episodes his talents have won him praise from the show’s judges and fans alike for his music style:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Riley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim, Tuesday, May 24, 2005, as Bo Bice Day in the State of Alabama and encourage all citizens to support and watch Bo Bice on American Idol and vote for him after his live performance. Given Under My Hand and the Great Seal of the Office of the Governor at the State Capitol in the City of Montgomery on the 23th day of May 2005.
