July 27, 2005 Governor Riley Calls Special Session "Great Success" Every Bill on Governors Agenda Approved MONTGOMERY - Governor Bob Riley said the special session he called to approve a General Fund budget and pass other high priority items was a "great success." He said legislators accomplished more in the brief five-day session than they did during the entire regular session, which lasted from February 1 to May 16. Below are comments Governor Riley made this morning:
"The special session was a great success for Alabamas taxpayers. Every bill I proposed passed, including the budget and two landmark pieces of legislation that protect property rights and strengthen laws to protect our children from predators. The budget that passed is essentially the one I proposed, and legislators came together in bipartisan coalitions to fight off attempts to add unnecessary spending in the Senate."
"More was accomplished in these five days than during the entire regular session. It goes to show how much can be achieved when everyone decides to get to work and put partisan and personal differences aside and do whats in the best interests of Alabama."
