Governor Riley Calls Special Election to Fill House District 12 Seat

MONTGOMERY—Governor Bob Riley on Thursday set the dates of the special election required to fill the House seat left vacant due to the resignation of Representative Neal Morrison.  The special election will be held to fill the vacancy in House District 12 for the remainder of the term for which Representative Morrison was elected.

The qualifying deadline for candidates of the two major political parties is Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at 5:00 p.m.

Party primaries will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. 

Runoff Elections, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2007. If no runoffs are necessary, a Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2007.

In the event of a runoff, the Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2008.

Third-party and independent candidates seeking ballot access must file the appropriate notification, petitions and supporting paperwork with the Secretary of State by 5:00 p.m. on November 13, 2007.
