June 09, 2009 Governor Riley Appoints Cliff Walker to Board of Pardon and Paroles MONTGOMERY - Governor Bob Riley announced today he has appointed Cliff Walker of Bessemer to the Alabama Board of Pardon and Paroles. Walker was one of three individuals recommended for the position by the state parole board nominating committee. Two members of that committee - House Speaker Seth Hammett and Criminal Appeals Court Judge Kelli Wise - recommended Walker. Walker, who currently serves as the states Small Business Advocate, was chairman of the second special pardon and paroles board that was created by an act of the Legislature in 2003. The second board was dissolved in 2006. Cliff Walker is highly qualified to serve our state once again on the Board of Pardon and Paroles. His experience will be instrumental in moving the board forward as it pursues its important mission. I thank Speaker Hammett and Judge Wise for their thoughtful recommendation of Mr. Walker and all members of the nominating committee for their work, said Governor Riley. Walker will be filling a vacancy on the board that becomes open on July 1 when current member VeLinda Weatherlys term expires. | |
