August 03, 2009 Governor Riley Saves State $2.5 Million with Wait of God Bless America License Plate Redesign MONTGOMERY - Action by Governor Bob Riley to delay requirements for redesigning the God Bless America license plate will keep the state from having to spend $2.5 million next year. On Monday, Governor Riley signed a proclamation delaying the distinctive license plates redesign by two years, from 2011 to 2013. State law normally requires that license plates be replaced at the end of five years. That five-year period was set to expire for the God Bless America tags in 2011 and the state would have been obligated to spend $2.5 million next year on replacements. State government should always be on the look out for ways to avoid unnecessary costs, and this is certainly one of them, said Governor Riley. This $2.5 million in savings wont solve the states budget problems, but it will help. We must make every effort to eliminate unnecessary spending. | |
